Medical Area Total Energy Plant

|
Boston, MA

The Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP) generates electrical power, steam, and chilled water for the hospital and medical research community in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area. Owned and operated by MATEP and Veolia Energy North America Holdings, Inc., the facility serves a campus of over 150 acres including three of Harvard’s professional schools and six affiliated teaching hospitals. The plant’s nominal generation capacity is 88 MW of electricity, 900,000 lb/hr steam, and 42,000-tons of chilled water cooling. This chilled water master plan determined the short term requirements and provided a plan to supply and distribute chilled water through 2017.
