Prudential Center

Opened in 2007, Prudential Center is a 850,000-square-foot sports and entertainment venue and home to the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and Seton Hall University’s men’s basketball teams. With seating for more than 16,000 spectators, the arena hosts a diverse range of professional sports, concerts, and major entertainment events, serving as a cornerstone of Newark’s downtown revitalization. At the time of its opening, it was the first major indoor professional sports and entertainment venue completed in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area in more than 25 years.

Vanderweil Engineers provided comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) design services for the facility. The arena’s infrastructure includes a 4,400-ton central chilled water plant, a 1,600-boiler-horsepower central heating plant, 8-10 MVA electrical service, and nearly 750,000 CFM of conditioned air supplied through advanced HVAC systems. Vanderweil also engineered specialized desiccant dehumidification systems to maintain optimal air quality and ice conditions for NHL play.

Additional systems include plumbing for public restrooms, concessions, kitchens, and locker rooms; fire protection and life safety systems throughout the facility; sports and entertainment lighting; and a 1 million CFM smoke control exhaust system.
