The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and Brown University partnered to replace aging infrastructure with a modern, state-of-the-art laboratory facility serving both public health and academic research needs.

The seven-story, 212,000 sf building includes an 80,000 sf State Health Lab, life science labs for Brown University, and additional biotechnology space, creating a collaborative environment under one roof. Designed for performance and safety, the facility features high-efficiency HVAC systems, enhanced ventilation, and modern life-safety systems to support advanced testing, including infectious disease diagnostics, environmental analysis, and forensics.

Vanderweil provided MEP/FP engineering services for the project, which achieved LEED Gold certification.
