Plainville, MA

National Grid needed to construct a new substation with a 23/13.8kV Modular Integrated Transportable Substation (MITS) on a new 'green field' site provided by the developers of the casino that was approximately 200'x130'. The MITS was assembled, pre-wired, and shipped by Eaton’s Cooper Power Systems. The station supplies the new slot parlor and racecourse facilities being built at Plainridge Park. Vanderweil provided overall project engineering, which required interfacing with various National Grid departments. This included substations, protection, transmission planning, metering and telecommunications, and division operations. Vanderweil was also responsible for finalizing the project scope, engineering/design schedule, and outlining major tasks.
