The renovation project at the culturally-rich Muscarelle Museum incorporates various features to enhance its functionality and appeal. The 60,000 sf project creates a dynamic resource for the community, a working laboratory for the College of William & Mary, and a platform for visiting exhibitions.

Visitors to the museum will first be greeted by a welcoming front courtyard, which is used for outdoor gatherings. Inside, guests will enter an open, light-filled atrium with seating for 80 and a grand staircase provides access to second-floor galleries. The renovation centers on enhanced and expanded gallery spaces, which will effectively triple the exhibition capacity of the museum.

The project adds an event hall with lecture seating for 200 and banquet seating for 100 people. The facility will also feature seminar rooms designed for exploring works of art and conducting research, an open study/library room, and vital storage facilities for preserving valuable artwork.

Vanderweil is providing MEP/FP engineering services for this comprehensive renovation project, which not only transforms the existing Muscarelle Museum, but also integrates it into a larger museum facility. Collectively, these efforts will ensure that the museum continues to serve as a valuable resource for the community and academia while offering enhanced exhibition and educational capabilities.
