The University of Florida’s new Wertheim Laboratory for Engineering Excellence is a five-story, 84,000 sf state-of-art interdisciplinary engineering building for graduate and undergraduate programs. The facility features a wide range of research spaces teaching studios, meeting spaces, conference rooms, lounges, offices, and support spaces.
This critical research and teaching facility houses specialized laboratories in the areas of biotechnology, tissue culture, microscopy, additive manufacturing, fabrication, computer science, and robotics. The labs are replete with compressed area and carbon dioxide gas systems along with central vacuum.
The building is served by two 50,000 CFM custom air handling units located in the penthouse, and two 27,000 CFM high-plume rooftop lab exhaust fans with glycol heat recovery coils. Normal power is fed by a 1,000 kVA exterior pad-mounted transformer and a 400 kW diesel emergency generator.
