Ramapo College of New Jersey sought to renovate the existing Peter P. Mercer Library and construct a new Learning Center Addition. Constructed in 1976, the library was in need of upgrades to its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Vanderweil provided MEP engineering and technology/AV upgrading services for the renovations of the existing 62,000 sf library along with the addition of a new 18,000 sf instruction and study area.
The library renovation and expansion dramatically increased group study and meeting rooms, gathering spaces, library collections and stacks, and classroom and multipurpose areas with enhanced space for reference and research services.
There are several new conference rooms and two informational literacy classrooms, as well as the addition of 20 technology-rich group study rooms to be used for screening films, conducting group presentations, one-button studio recording, video conferences, and remote learning.
Spaces on all floors include areas for both individual and collaborative learning. The facility also features several new faculty and student-orientated services, including the College’s Information Technology Services, the Krame Center for Contemplative Studies, and a newly-created makerspace.
