Montgomery County, MD’s Executive Office Building (EOB) comprises 234,000 sf of office, conference, and assembly space across its 16 stories. The building also contains a full commercial kitchen and dining area for County employees and constituents.
Vanderweil led a cross-disciplinary team of consultants through a three-phase study seeking to turn the EOB from one of the County’s worst-performing buildings into one of its best. The study laid out a pathway for the County to achieve an 80% reduction in the carbon emissions of the EOB via a variety of building-level strategies as well as via the implementation of a campus CHP plant.
