Harvard University’s overall consolidation of the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (SCRB) program required significant renovations to the Sherman Fairchild Biochemistry and Bauer Laboratory buildings.
Vanderweil was engaged to provide MEP/FP engineering and sustainability consulting services in support of this consolidation.
The Sherman Fairchild facility underwent a gut renovation within all floors and the mechanical penthouse to provide new open-bench laboratory space, tissue culture labs (high occupant density), microscopy spaces, a zebra fish suite, a therapeutic screening area, and administrative offices and conference rooms.
The Bauer facility alterations included modifications to lab areas throughout five building levels as well as the common areas on the ground floor. This effort resulted in the project being recognized by I2SL with its Go Beyond Award for sustainable, high-performance facilities.
