The expansion of the Sadler Center at the College of William & Mary’s Williamsburg campus is central to the institution’s envisioned Student Life Neighborhood—a purposefully designed series of engaging spaces for meetings, social events, speakers, performances and other community gatherings.

The 70,000 sf facility expansion serves as a central hub for 11 previously dispersed Student Affairs groups, fostering an active and accessible student-centered environment. These functions include the Dean of Student staff rooms, student affairs space, staff / student organizations areas, conference rooms, and event space.

Vanderweil provided MEP/FP engineering services to help create a safe, comfortable, and energy efficient environment for the college community. New utility systems for the expansion included two gas-fired condensing-type boilers, and a DDC controls system. The HVAC system was rezoned and supplemented with VAV AHUs to efficiently serve the diverse range of spaces within the facility.

Additionally, the adjoining, unoccupied King Center was renovated as part of this project. Its heating, cooling, and distribution equipment underwent a comprehensive replacement save for integration with the existing, 45-ton outdoor air-cooled chiller.
