When Beam Therapeutics decided to centralize its operations into the heart of Cambridge’s Innovation District, it selected a 38,000 sf shell facility on Landsdowne Street. Vanderweil was engaged to design the MEP/FP systems that would drive the lab and office space used by Beam’s scientists as they conduct their pioneering research into gene-editing and genetic medicines.
The two floors occupied by Beam within this facility were configured to blend the research areas and workspaces to foster the company’s culture of collaboration. MEP systems were designed to support both the current research operations as well as future growth.
Beam’s facility includes a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) lab and a tissue culture (TC) lab. Additionally, the general lab spaces feature fume hoods, a cold room, and areas for freezer and autoclave equipment.
