Axalta’s new Global Innovation Center is located at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. Vanderweil provided engineering services to support the fit-out of this new 180,000 sf facility, which houses the company’s research laboratories, mixing rooms, and spray booths. 

The spray booths  have unique environmental requirements to ensure consistency with the application of Axalta’s products; they are designed with both humidification and dedicated dehumidification systems to allow Axalta to test paints in the full range of conditions that their customers experience. 

Vanderweil designed all the MEP systems for the facility at the naval yard to fit-out the new “shell” structure constructed by Liberty Property Trust. New systems included a new chiller plant, boiler plant, air-handling supply and exhaust systems with heat recovery, compressed air, DI water, and all normal and standby generator power systems.  Equipment was consolidated within the central plant and on the lower roof of the two-story facility to preserve the appearance of the facility on its all-glass western exposure.
