One of the largest projects completed by the City of Cambridge, this high-profile undertaking features a 76,700 sf library addition, the preservation of the 27,200 sf existing historic library, and a 70-space underground parking garage.

This project is LEED Silver, featuring high-performance MEP systems that include a state-of-the-art building management control system, high-efficiency lighting and natural light dimming system, and high-efficiency central heating/cooling plants. A double façade curtain wall system maximizes the use of natural light, while minimizing solar heat gains to reduce energy consumption during cooling. The central heating/cooling plants and air handling systems sit 40 feet below grade; this necessitated the design of a one-of-a-kind ventilation tunnel system that eliminates space-consuming ductwork risers and louvers on the building exterior. A 140,000 cfm smoke exhaust system provides occupants a safe exit passage from the multi-level atria in a fire/smoke situation.
