The Kernersville VA Clinic is a four-level 325,000 sf facility provides a complete range of outpatient services, including ambulatory surgery, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, behavioral health, women’s clinic, and general practices.

The Kernersville VA Health Care Center is a significant addition to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care network. The center provides a range of outpatient services, including primary care, specialty clinics, mental health care, and outpatient surgery. It is designed to enhance the patient experience with its community-based approach and focus on wellness. The center’s design incorporates natural elements to promote relaxation and improve quality of life for veterans.

Vanderweil designed the high‑efficiency chilled water plant and optimized envelope and lighting systems, while providing emergency power and UPS infrastructure, engineering for the surgery suite and pharmacy, and a flexible design that supports future needs.

This new center was delivered through a developer lease‑back model and consolidates a broad range of clinical services under one roof. The program includes behavioral health, dialysis, women’s health, audiology, dental, pulmonary, cardiology, and eye‑care clinics, among others. The facility also features an outpatient surgery suite with four operating rooms, as well as radiology and nuclear medicine services.

Additional program elements include an on‑site police station with dedicated building systems and a full‑service canteen for patients and visitors. The building achieved LEED Gold certification.
